Iarnród Éireann (IE) required the development of a new National Train Control Centre at Heuston Station to replace the CTC (Centralised Traffic Control Centre) at Connelly Station. The aim was to provide a modern, modular, fully integrated Traffic Management System (TMS), with the eventual capability to re-control all existing signalling on the IE network and to be scalable to allow for future re-signalling projects to be taken under the control of the NTCC.

Pascall+Watson were appointed as project lead providing project management, design leadership and co-ordination for the multiple disciplines and operation requirements. Our multidisciplinary team provided all services required to complete a design of sufficient detail to enable a tender for construction to be issued, including Project Management, Architectural, Structural, Civil, Mechanical & Electrical, QS, and PSDP.

As the project is to be constructed beside a live railway, our designs consider how access will be maintained to Heuston Station, which will remain operational during construction. The design has also been created to be a Nearly Zero-Energy (nZEB) facility, in compliance with the 2017 Building Regulations Part L, and the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive.
