LONDON BRIDGE CONCOURSE

CONNECTING WITH LONDON’S ICONIC SKYLINE

London Bridge Station’s new terminating platform concourse building, sitting at the base of The Shard, formed the first phase of the station’s redevelopment as part of the Thameslink Programme to transform north-south travel through London.

Pascall+Watson collaborated with Renzo Piano Building Workshop, architects of The Shard, on this scheme working from concept to completion stage.

The new concourse was successfully constructed in the live station, through 16 work phases, without impacting operations. The building of glass and steel resolves the interface between the tallest building in Europe and the station entrance. It creates a new plaza at the front of London Bridge Station and incorporates one of the longest ticket entry barriers in Europe

The new concourse integrates the terminating platforms, The Shard, bus station, taxi stands and London Underground station and was a significant milestone in the London Bridge Quarter development to open the South East corridor of London. It brings an openness and fresh appearance to the station and has become a significant element within the overall London Bridge Quarter redevelopment.
