CROSSRAIL

IMPROVING CONNECTIVITY ACROSS LONDON

Europe’s largest infrastructure construction project improved connectivity across London for an estimated 200 million people a year.

The 41-station Crossrail expansive scheme, which includes the new Elizabeth Line, increases passenger capacity across the capital by around 10%. Working in collaboration with Network Rail, Pascall+Watson carried out the detailed design for all of the 13 stations along the western corridor; from Acton to Maidenhead and Heathrow.

Our work includes major new station buildings at Acton Main Line, West Ealing, West Drayton, Southall and Hayes and Harlington as well as a significant overhaul and modernisation at Ealing Broadway. All station platforms are re-configured and extended to accommodate the 205m long state-of-the-art rolling stock and to ease the congestion caused by the ever-expanding rail patronage.

First employed to develop revised scheme designs for the various station alterations and improvements Pascall+Watson were subsequently employed directly by two separate contractors to deliver technical design, provide constructability and site logistics planning, and to work on site to ensure prompt resolution of design queries as they arose.

Working side by side with the contractor team we were able to help ensure delays and cost over runs were avoided and that progressive inspection and approval of designs was completed without disruption, and that record information was able to be delivered completed at practical completion.

“Pascall+Watson demonstrated a flexible working attitude throughout this complex programme of works, offering innovative design solutions which maximise the use of repetition across various packages of work”
