NATIONAL TRAIN CONTROL CENTRE

MODERN, MODULAR AND FULLY INTEGRATED

The existing Iarnród Éireann central train control centre required replacement due to capacity constraints and IT systems nearing expiration. Pascall+Watson were appointed as project lead providing project management, design leadership and co-ordination for the multiple disciplines and operation requirements for the The National Train Control Centre (NTCC).

The project now complete enables the integration of signalling and communications control across the entire Iarnród Éireann network, making rail traffic management more efficient while delivering a highly secure facility with an efficient/refined working environment.

Providing a visual connection to Heuston Station and the city beyond, each floor above ground level in the main building is organised around a large lobby space. Providing access to shared facilities and filled with natural light, this area creates a sense of place and beneficial connection with the external environment.

Surface finishes formed an integral part of the overall building design. By successfully optimising the visual, textural and acoustic characteristics of surface finishes, we created the optimal working environment required for the specialist activities being undertaken in the building.

Designed to NZEB standards, the NTCC supports Iarnród Éireann railway decarbonisation strategy. Photovoltaic panels on the main building roof generate renewable energy, and implementing passive environmental design, including natural light, minimises energy consumption and costs.

“This piece of investment is a key component in the modernisation of our rail network and is indicative of the commitment to improving services for customers well into the future.”
