THE FUTURE OF URBAN COMMUTER AVIATION

Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) vehicles have been making strides in recent years, with manufacturers now testing full-scale prototypes and piloting physical vehicles.

Unlike other eVTOL concepts that focus on 2–6 seat options geared toward the affluent class, Skybus aims to tackle the ultimate goal of electric air transport: mass commuting. It envisions a larger vehicle capable of carrying more passengers to reduce costs per mile and ticket price.

Skybus’s mass commuting concept for electric air transport aims to alleviate urban congestion and make UAM accessible to more than just the privileged few. By providing a viable alternative to traditional transport, the project stands to transform the way individuals navigate urban environments.

Pascall+Watson led the development of all infrastructure requirements and designs for the Skybus project working with a consortium that includes British aerospace giant GKN (vehicle development and operation), Swanson Aviation Consulting (concept of operationt), and Connected Places Catapult (demand data and commercial viability). The project was funded by the UK Government’s Future Flight Initiative and administered under Innovate UK (part of the UK’s Research and Innovation agency)
